Bind Updates for Slackware 11.0 · 15 January 2009, 13:47 by trickykid
Apparently there is updates for Bind to address security vulnerabilities. From the Slackware Security Advisories page:
[slackware-security] bind (SSA:2009-014-02)
New bind packages are available for Slackware 8.1, 9.0, 9.1, 10.0, 10.1, 10.2,
11.0, 12.0, 12.1, 12.2, and -current to fix a security issue.
More details about this issue may be found here: https://www.isc.org/node/373 http://www.ocert.org/advisories/ocert-2008-016.html http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2008-5077 http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2009-0025
But the package provided by Slackware seems broken for 11.0. Yes, I still run 11.0 on my servers for many reasons, I won’t explain in this entry. Anyways, it might just be a bad build on the Slackware teams doing as a simple rebuild of the source provided by Slackware fixed my issue.
So if you still use Slackware 11.0, use Bind and install this new package/update and get errors upon startup about the capability module not loaded, then you can try the package I’ve provided below or from my Slackware page.
bind-9.3.6_P1-i486-1_slack11.0.tgz
Good luck and happy Slacking!

It appears Slackware got others stating the problems as I notified them with the problem and they’ve released new packages for bind for 10.2 and 11.0. Apparently they compiled the bind packages on these systems with kernel 2.6.x, which I had guessed from the error received.
